med Michael D. Yapko, Ph.D., Clin. Psychologist

Michael D. Yapko, Ph.D., is a clinical psychologist and marriage and family therapist residing in Fallbrook, California. He is internationally recognized for his work in clinical hypnosis and outcome focused psychotherapy, routinely teaching to professional audiences all over the world. He has been invited to present his innovative ideas and methods to colleagues in 30 countries across six continents, and all over the United States.
    He is the author of 11 books and editor of three others, as well as numerous book chapters, and articles on the subjects of the brief therapy of depression and the use of clinical hypnosis in strategic psychotherapies. He is a recipient of numerous awards including The Pierre Janet Award of Clinical Excellence, a lifetime award from the International Society of Hypnosis and the Milton H. Erickson Foundation Lifetime Achievement Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Field of Psychotherapy.

Workshop

Enhancing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for Depression with Strategic Applications of Hypnosis

In the workshop I will review the scientific evidence that hypnosis does, in fact, enhance CBT´s effectiveness. Hypnosis is not to be considered a therapy in and of itself. Thus, to compare hypnosis to CBT is misguided. Evidence interested psychotherpists should ask the question, “If we do CBT without hypnosis and we do CBT with hypnosis, does adding hypnosis increase the effectiveness of CBT?” The research indicates that the answer is yes. How hypnosis enhances CBT is what I will cover in my workshop. I will present data, therapy techniques and provide structured practice sessions for key hypnotic processes that apply to the treatment of depression.
